Cleveland SC vs. Michigan Rangers FC - June 28, 2024

Final Home Match of the Regular Season

Cleveland Soccer Club is riding high after a thrilling 3-2 comeback victory over Erie Commodores FC on Wednesday evening. The team returns to Drive Morris Stadium at North Olmsted High School just two days later for a crucial matchup against Michigan Rangers FC. This pivotal game, set for June 28th at 7 PM, could significantly impact playoff positions.

This isn't just any game—it's the last home match of the regular season. We need you, our amazing fans and supporters, to fill the stands and help us push for those three vital points. Cleveland has been undefeated at home this season, and with your support, we aim to keep that streak alive and build momentum as we secure a playoff spot.

Since their last encounter with Michigan Rangers FC in Grand Rapids on June 14th, Cleveland has gone 2-0-1, with both victories occurring at home. In the same period, Michigan has played only one match, an 8-0 home victory over Niagara 1812. The current standings have Michigan in third place, with Cleveland trailing in fourth in the Great Lakes Conference.

This will be the fifth meeting between the two clubs. Cleveland's most recent win against the Rangers happened in Grand Rapids, during the 2023 Conference Semi-finals. The home crowd's support will be crucial as Cleveland looks to solidify a playoff spot in this final home match of the season.

Meet Our Opponent: Michigan Rangers FC

Michigan Rangers FC, led by Head Coach Stuart Collins, finished last season with an impressive 9-0-3 record. They currently hold a 4-0-2 record, with both losses against Akron City FC. Their most recent victory was an 8-0 win at home against Niagara 1812 on June 16th. Francesco Pagano, a Syracuse University collegiate, leads the Rangers with seven goals this season, including a hat-trick against Niagara. Chris Mendez and Liam Smith follow with four and three goals each, respectively, both scoring two goals in their match against Cleveland.

Club Notes

Cleveland SC (5-0-3), under Head Coach Joe Jovanovski, aims for back-to-back home wins. The comeback victory over Erie boosted morale, but it took 45 minutes to find that spark. Coach Jovanovski hopes the team will start strong and dictate the match from the beginning. Ryan Poling made crucial saves, including a penalty save in the second half, while Stanislav Koval scored twice, including the match-winner from a beautiful ball by Jaden Wright. Cleveland will need to replicate this performance, with the home crowd providing the necessary boost.
