Matchday 5: Cleveland SC Heads to Pittsburgh for Showdown Against Steel City FC
Cleveland SC will make the trip to Cheswick, Pennsylvania, just northeast of downtown Pittsburgh, to take on last year's conference winners, Steel City FC. The match is set to kick off at 7:00 pm EST on Saturday, June 8th, at Founders Field.
As the table looks early on, Cleveland SC sits top of the Great Lakes Conference table with a 3-0-0 record and a 3-point average, while Steel City FC is just below with a 4-1-0 record and a 2.60-point average. Cleveland SC is coming off a 7-2 victory in Southern Indiana and a postponed midweek match against Erie Commodores FC, which has been rescheduled for Wednesday, June 26th. (All ticket holders for the June 5th match against Erie can use their ticket for any of the remaining home matches. For any questions, email info@clevelandsc.com.)
Tonight’s match will be the only meeting this regular season between the two rival clubs. Cleveland SC holds a 7-1-4 overall record over Steel City FC, but last season saw the Pittsburgh club come away with two wins and a draw against Cleveland. Cleveland’s record at Founders Field is 1-0-3, with the lone victory coming back on June 25th, 2021, in a 2-1 victory on goals from Vinny Bell and Tom Beck.

Meet Our Opponent: Steel City FC
Steel City FC (4-1-0), led by Head Coach Dan Brower, is coming off a 5-1 victory in Buffalo against Niagara 1812 last Sunday evening. Their lone draw came back on May 25th on the road against Erie Commodores FC, which saw the club grab a 79’ goal after playing a man down for forty minutes following a second yellow card handed to Anass Hadran. Steel City FC followed up the draw with a 2-1 victory over Akron and the 5-1 meeting with Niagara 1812. Eben McIntyre leads the Pittsburgh-based club with four goals and Nathan Prex with three goals. Founders Field, their home ground, is a unique venue as it is the home of the Pittsburgh Harlequins Rugby Football Club and stands as the only natural grass pitch in our conference.
Club Notes
Little news on the club after the midweek matchup against Erie was canceled due to severe weather. Head Coach Joe Jovanovski and Cleveland SC will seek to continue their winning streak with their second road trip of the season. Following a dominant 7-2 victory over Southern Indiana Guardians, Coach Jovanovski will rely on goalkeeper Ryan Poling and the strong defense to keep opponents at bay while building on their threat up top with key contributors such as Stanislav Koval, currently on six goals in two matches, Griffin Meyer with three goals, and Ryan Sommerfeld with one goal and five assists.
